Courier Vehicles In The Uk

Posted by

Courier service providers in the UK are known to use different forms of transportation in order to meet their client’s delivery needs. These forms of transportation are on land, sea or air. This article will only focus on courier vehicles that are used by UK courier service providers. The overall objective of courier vehicles in the UK is to make sure that packages arrive to clients intact and as quickly as possible. Technology has advanced a lot especially in the last 20 years that we are fortunate to be able to track deliveries or packages in real time using apps and GPS trackers on mobile phone devices. Punctuality is very important in the courier industry because a sameday courier services provider that delivers packages to clients on time will always endear itself to them and will have no problems retaining clients, compared to one that does not deliver on time.

Motorcycles

Courier service providers in the UK use motorcycles to deliver small packages like CD’s, passports, documents, samples and letters just to name a few. These motorcycles are equipped with top boxes which can safely carry items that are not more than 10kgs with a width and breadth of up to 30cm x 20cm. Clients are often advised to pack their items or packages accordingly to minimise the risk of damage when being transported by a courier service provider from one location to another.

When it comes to delivering multiple small items or fragile boxes that need extra care then a car is the vehicle of choice for courier service providers in the UK. Many courier service providers will usually have large estate cars as well as small hatchbacks which they can dispatch to their clients when booked. Small hatchback couriers can carry up to 12 large cartons of A4 paper.

Vans come in many different capacities and sizes depending on what the clients require on the day.

Small Vans

Small vans range from 350kg weight to 700kg weight and the load each van can carry varies from one van to another. The 350kg vans can carry up to 35 A4 sized cartons per trip. The 400kg vans are slightly bigger with an internal dimension of 1.2m high x 1.6m long x 1.15m wide and can carry up to 45 cartons per trip. The most common used 400kg vans used by UK couriers are the Citroen Berlingo and the Renault Kangoo. The 700kgs vans have an internal dimension of 1.4m high x 1.7m long x 1.2m wide and can carry up to 60 cartons per trip.
