My Personal 180sx

There is just something about early 90′s car culture that really grabs my attention. Simplistic, less is more, function and form, these are the phrases that pop into mind when I think about car culture in the 90′s or at least the drifting aspect of it all. This is my personal piece of 90′s heaven, my 1997 Type X Nissan 180sx with time correct styling cues, such as the Blitz 03 wheels, Kouki OEM aero and all metal fenders. Like all cars this one is a work in progress, I plan... Read The Rest →

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 – Part 4

TAS is great for it’s ‘show’ inside the halls, although this year was great for fans as outside there was just as much action as inside.  D1GP demo runs, Japan motorsport demo runs, and one particular machine I was dying to see in real life. Share → Tweet

Autumn Drift Matsuri 2011 Part 4 : The last hurrah…

In the initial stages of the matsuri everyone was ‘go go go’ and making the most of the ‘all your can drift buffet’ Ebisu was serving up.  Tyres were popping like there was no tomorrow and by now after the mechanicals everyone was settling into the groove and counting down the final hours.  Tyre rations were being checked, zipties were being doubled to hold together the missiles to send the matsuri off with one final bang. Autumn Drift Matsuri 2011 Part 2 : Manji mayhem!

A quick bite to eat and one of the famous ‘Japanese canned coffee’s’ and I was good to go.  Sitting in the local convenience store carpark sipping down my ‘BOSS’ I was a little worried that everyone would blow up, crash, or simply drive their car into the ground and upon my return nothing would be driftable.  Luckily I was wrong. Autumn Drift Matsuri 2011 : Let the insanity begin!

Drift Matsuri is for any drifter the ultimate event to attend.  It is the pinnacle of….well cocking around.  In fact not just a day of cocking around, but a non-stop all-weekend ‘dori-houdai’ (all you can drift).  No wonder I find myself coming back time and time again.  No event puts a smile on my face like this one! 2011 D1GP Rd. 8 – Part 3

When fans come to an event in Japan they go all out to support it.  D1GP is great in that it gives back to the fans as well.  The pitwalk is the perfect way for all the fans to get up close to the driftcars and the drivers too.  This is how motorsport should be! Share → Tweet

2011 D1GP Rd. 8 – Part 2

The worst thing about a rainy practice day is that you can be sure it’s still going to be damp the following morning.  Kind of like a kick in the guts then another lazy boot while you are down, well for us photographers anyway. Looking on the bright side Sunday was fine! The cars were out on track early and by 9:30 a dry line was starting to appear and so was the smoke! Share → Tweet

2011 D1GP Rd. 8 – Part 1

2011 D1GP is already finished.  After a late start in May due to the earthquake, already we are upon the final round and ready to crown a new champion again. It was set to be a showdown between Imamura and Saito, although only if the weather was going to play ball.  Saturday however it decided to rear it’s ugly head. Share → Tweet
